According to the ASPCA:

Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.

Each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized (1.2 million dogs and 1.4 million cats).

Every time our family added a new furry four-legged member, we adopted. According to Google Trends, There are daily searches for "Adopt a Dog" in every state. This prompted me to write this post on some ideas to support the first three days, three weeks, and three months.

For those of you who have added a rescue pup to your family, here are some post-adoption steps and a training option I offer to support you and your new pup.

It's so important to create a warm and welcoming environment to help your new family member feel safe and secure as they settle in. Remember the three days, three weeks, and three months guideline; these amazing beings often need a bit of time to truly reveal their personalities.

Let’s work together to set your new companion up for success right from the beginning. Our main focus will be creating an environment that ensures a smooth transition. By introducing some fundamental training skills, along with fun focus and pattern games, we can help your new friend build confidence.

Every dog is unique, and a dog adopted from a shelter or rescue may carry a past that remains a mystery to us. While we might instinctively try to create a narrative around the behaviors we observe, it’s important to remember that we can only speculate. Instead, let’s

collaborate to craft a new narrative—one that embodies respect, love, and trust.
